Chinese Classical Dance: The Chinese classical dance course is a training of traditional Chinese classical dance style. The class will focus on two objectives:
Firstly, the unique body language employed in classical dance will be taught. Primarily starting with the waist, training will concentrate in “movement method” and “rhythm understanding”. The grammar of this body language can be described as the practice of "twisting", "tilting" , "rounding" and “curvature” movements.
Technically, Classical Dance training is focused on expression of "elevation", "sinking", "anticipation", "inclination", "reservation", "shyness" and "transposition”. This can be achieved by practicing the basic movement routines of drawing "horizontal circles, standing circles, and the double-circle figure 8-characters".
The second objective of this class is the rehearsal of traditional classical dance repertoire. The class will cultivate charm and elegance. Based on routine movements of this style, the teacher will assist students in the organically integration of art and form, eventually presenting the envisioned aesthetic essence of the Chinese classical dance style in live performances. Through the rehearsal of the staple of Chinese classical dance, relationship between Chinese culture and classical dance is enlightened. The shape and art form shall mutually reward and elevate each other as a result.
